BIAFO HISPAR SNOW LAKE TREK ITINERARY DAY 01 ARRIVAL RAWALPINDI Upon arrival met and transfer to your hotel in Rawalpindi. After a short rest drives to Islamabad for trek briefing in HTT office. Overnight hotel. DAY 02 SKARDU OR CHILAS Fly to Skardu, If unable to fly, same day we will drive to Skardu, spending a night in Chilas. Note: The cost of flight To Skardu or drive To Skardu is not included in our price and it will be given as separate or additional price. Overnight hotel. DAY 03 SKARDU Emergency day, in case flight does not operate on day 02 this day will be use to transfer the members by road from Chilas to Skardu. Total drive time from Islamabad to Skardu is 22-24 hours. Overnight hotel. DAY 04 SKARDU Free day. DAY 05 SKARDU TO ASKOLE 7 to 8 hrs. AM embark jeeps for full days ride on a winding jeep trail to Askole. The last inhabitancy on our way to the Great Glaciers. Highest in the region, the stone & timber abodes contain dark & narrow stairwells riven by gloomy, unlit alleys cluster within the embrace of the fertile terraces. Overnight in tents. Note:- The road to Askole comes undergoing rapid erosion and gets closed quite oftenly. If unable to jeep, the group will disembark & walk to Askole on the same day or camp for overnight (subject to distance). DAY 06 ASKOLE TO NAMLA 7 to 8 hours. After one hour you will find the ancient Kiser’s Polo Ground. From here the trek become difficult and you will walk over large unstable boulders and reach Namla. Namla is sandy camp sight. Overnight in tents in Namla. DAY 07 NAMLA TO SHAFUNG 5 to 6 hours. After few minutes walk the mighty Biafo glacier start with its all cruelty and large crevasses. Few hours on Biafo glacier and then you will reach a green area which is your campsite for overnight. DAY 08 SHAFUNG TO Baintha Easy walk along with greenery area. After 3 to 4 hours you will reach Baintha. Overnight tents. DAY 09 BAINTHA Baintha is also known as Conway’s Camp, as Sir W Martin Conway camped here in 1892. An hour’s walk beyond camp, the Baintha Lukpar Glacier flows down from the Latok Group, offering interesting side treks to explore those peaks. Overnight in tents. DAY 10 BAINTHA TO KHARFOGORO 7 to 8 hours trek on glacier. The camp side in stony. Overnight in tents. DAY 11 KHARFOGORO TO SNOW LAKE After 4 to 5 hours walk you will reach Snow Lake. Before enter the Snow Lake rope, gaiters and waterproof boots are essential. W Martin Conway, the first foreign visitor, gave Snow Lake the name in 1892. In 1899, the husband wife team of William Hunter Workman and Fanny Bullock Workman came and speculated that Snow Lake might be an ice-cap like those in the polar regions, from which glacier flowed out in all directions, and estimated its size at 300 square miles. DAY 12 SNOW LAKE TO HISPAR PASS 2 to 3 hours. It is an easy, steady climb to the top to the Hispar Pass (5,151m) but quite strenuous at this altitude. The route wends gently up the center, with giant crevasses and striped, greenish-blue seracs on either side. Note: - If the weather is clear then you have to stay in the top of Hispar Pass and if you feel that the weather is going worst then you must cross the pass quickly and after crossing it camp at any suitable place. DAY 13 HISPAR PASS TO KHANI BASA 5 to 6 hours depending on snow conditions. Even in the early morning, the snow can be so soft that you sink up to your calves. At Khani Basa there is small green campsite just before the junction with the Khani Basa Glacier, with room for four or five tents at 4,580 meters. Overnight in tents. DAY 14 KHANI BASA TO YATMURU 5 to 6 hours. It takes about 90 minutes to cross the Khani Basa Glacier, it is relatively easy going, with a fine view north (right) to the smooth white dome of Kanjut Sar. Camp about an hour before the Yatmuru Glacier. Overnight tent. DAY 15 YUTMARU TO BITANMAL 6 to 7 hours. The Yutmaru Glacier takes at least two hours to cross, with high ice walls and deep crevasses to negotiate. Overnight tent. DAY 16 BITANMAL TO HISPAR VILLAGE 4 to 5 hours. This is an easy day of walking through pastures in the ablation valley past willow and cedar shrubs. The easy crossing of the Kunyang Glacier takes about an hour, followed by a gentle four-hour walk to Hispar village. Overnight tent. DAY 17 HISPAR VILLAGE TO HURU Only depend on road conditions. If the road is open the jeep will come to Hispar village otherwise you have to walk about 5 to 6 hours to reach Huru. DAY 18 HURU TO KARIMABAD 2 to 3 hours drive and you will reach Karimabad. Overnight in hotel. DAY 19 KARIMABAD Free day. In Karimabad you can visit Altit & Baltit fort. From here you can see the superb view of Nager valley. Overnight in hotel in Karimabad. DAY 20 KARIMABAD TO CHILAS Early morning start journey towards Chilas. It takes 6 to 7 hours drive. In the way you will see the beautiful view of Rakaposhi and Nanga Parbat. After crossing Gilgit river you will find the point where the three great ranges, Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush meet. Overnight Chilas. DAY 21 CHILAS TO ISLAMABAD 10 to 12 hours drive on KKH you will reach Islamabad. Overnight hotel. DAY 22 ISLAMABAD Morning for debriefing in Ministry of Tourism and after this proceed by coach to Taxila, situated 35 miles from Rawalpindi. Taxila once the seat of oriental culture. It was first mentioned as a satrap of Achaemeenian Empire in 6th century BC. It was invaded by the Macedonian Alexander and passing along to other rulers until finally reaching the hands of Ashoka the Great, who molded the city in to a center of Philosophy, Art and Education. The creative Gandhara period followed shortly thereafter and Taxila remained a prosperous city. It came to a disastrous end when sacked by white Huns. Today Taxila is an archaeologist’s paradise here is a well-maintained museum and eight sites. Among best-preserved are Sirkap, Julian, Mohair Maradu and Bhirmond. Evening depart for onward flight.
