BROGHIL KARAMBAR LAKE CHILLINJI PASS ITINERARY DAY: 01 ISLAMABAD Arrival Islamabad and transfer to Hotel for overnight. DAY: 02 DIR Early morning departure to Dir. Passing the Frontier town of Mardan we arrived in Takht-e-Bahi. Takht-e-Bahi is the most impressive and complete Buddhist monastery in Pakistan. Passing through Takht-e-Bahi we cross Malakand Pass and descend down onto the Swat valley. Turning left from Chakdara Bridge we cross the Swat river. Here you can see the “Chakdara Fort” above which is the ”Churchill picket”. Dir is situated in NWFP & 7-8 hours jeep drive from Islamabad. Overnight in Dir. DAY: 03 CHITRAL Early morning departure for Chitral. After crossing the Lowari pass (3,200 m) we descend into the Drosh valley and continue on to Chitral. Overnight in Chitral hotel. Day: 04 KALASH VALLEY Today we will drive for a day excursion to the Kafir Kalash valleys. The Kafir Kalash, or wearers of the black robe, are pagan tribes living in the Hindukush and claim descent from Alexander the Great. DAY: 05 YARKHUN VALLEY The jeep will probably take us to Mastuj town where we can camp. We are overwhelmed being in the Hindukush. Trich Mir (7,487 m) towers above the valley. DAY: 06 YARKHUN LASHT We will drive as far as possible in the Yarkhun Valley. Each season the jeep road goes a little further. DAY: 07 KISHMANJA Today we will start our trek and follow Yarkhun River on a gentle terrain. After few hours trek we will reach Kishmanja camp (3,410 m). 6 to 7 hrs. trek. DAY: 08 CHIKAR (3,700 m) On this segment we have our first glance of the huge Chattiboi Glacier. The trail is good. We cross the Yarkhun River by a footbridge. 6 to 7 hrs. trek. DAY: 09 BOROGHIL PASS At Broghil we are only a few miles away from the legendary Wakhan Corridor of Central Asia. 3 to 4 hrs. DAY: 10 LASHKARGOZ (3,800 m) We are now in high-meadow country where villagers from far below bring their livestock here for summer grazing. 4 to 5 hrs. DAY: 11 KARAMBAR LAKE We are now at the Karambar Pass and are surrounded with some of the most beautiful scenery on this planet. 4 to 5 hrs. DAY: 12 KARAMBAR LAKE Free day for area excursion. This day we will take rest at the bank of Karambar Lake. DAY: 13 CHITTEBOI Today we will trek towards Chitteboi Glacier and camp on the foot to Glacier. 4 to 5 hrs. DAY: 14 SHOUINJI (4,000 m) We follow the Karambar River down to Shouinji. 3 to 4 hrs. DAY: 15 SOKHTARABAD (3,600 m) Continue down to Sokhtarabad. 4 hours trek. DAY: 16 JUNGLE 6 hours trek. DAY: 17 CHILLINJI BASE CAMP We climb toward the Chilling Pass and camp under it in order to successfully cross it the next day. 3 hours trek. DAY: 18 CHILLING PASS (5,247 m) / BIATAR Today is a tough day of trekking and after ascending the high pass, we now make camp while descending on the other side. Here we have crossed the Hindukush and the Chitral Valley and now we are in the Hunza Valley with the mighty Karakoram Mountain Range in front of us. DAY: 19 BABA GHUNDI The first site of the famous saint’s shrine fills us with emotions and we give thanks for a safe passage! Our jeeps are waiting here for us. DAY: 20 SOST The small Karakoram town of Sost feels like a metropolis after our trek of a lifetime. DAY: 21 KARIMABAD HUNZA Today we will drive to the top of Khunjerab Pass, touch China and drive back all the way to Karimabad. DAY: 22 KARIMABAD Free day. In Karimabad you can visit Altit & Baltit fort. From here you can see the superb view of Nager valley. Overnight in hotel in Karimabad. DAY: 23 KARIMABAD TO CHILAS Early morning start journey towards Chilas. It takes 6 to 7 hours drive. In the way you will see the beautiful view of Rakaposhi and Nanga Parbat. After crossing Gilgit river you will find the point where the three great ranges, Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush meet. Overnight Chilas. DAY: 24 CHILAS TO ISLAMABAD 10 to 12 hours drive on KKH you will reach Islamabad. Overnight hotel. DAY: 25 ISLAMABAD Morning Taxila, situated 35 miles from Rawalpindi. Taxila once the seat of oriental culture. It was first mentioned as a satrap of Achaemeenian Empire in 6th century BC. It was invaded by the Macedonian Alexander and passing along to other rulers until finally reaching the hands of Ashoka the Great, who molded the city in to a center of Philosophy, Art and Education. The creative Gandhara period followed shortly thereafter and Taxila remained a prosperous city. It came to a disastrous end when sacked by white Huns. Today Taxila is an archaeologist’s paradise here is a well-maintained museum and eight sites. Among best-preserved are Sirkap, Julian, Mohair Maradu and Bhirmond.
