Chitral, Shundur, Gilgit, Skardu, Khaplu, HusheJeep Safari
Day 01: Arrival at Islamabad International Airport. Transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Early morning departure to Dir. Passing the Frontier town of Mardan we cross Malakand Pass and descend down onto the Swat valley. Turning left from Chakdara Bridge we cross the Swat river. Here you can see the “Chakdara Fort” above which is the ”Churchill picket”. Dir is situated in NWFP & 7-8 hours jeep drive from Islamabad.
Day 03: Early morning departure for Chitral. After crossing the Lowari pass (3,200 m) we descend into the Drosh valley and continue on to Chitral. Overnight in Chitral hotel.
Day 04: Drive to the “Kalash” valley of Bamburet to spend the day amongst this pagan tribe with their unique culture. You can also visit a typical Kalash house to observe their life style. It takes 1 ½ hours drive from Chitral. Overnight in tents.
Day 05: Drive to “Gram Chashma” 45 Kms. (2 hours) from Chitral & 3 ½ hours drive from Bamburet. The road follows the south bank of the Lutkho River through a steep-sided gorge and emerges into the green, wooded valley of Gram Chashma (Hot Spring), which is guarded by a mud walled fort. The hot Sulpher springs are believed to heal skin diseases, gout, rheumatism and headaches. Overnight in Gram Chashma.
Day 06: Early morning departure to Mastuj. It is 152 kilometers from Gram Chashma & 7 to 8 hours drive. At Mastuj the river changes its name. Above the town it is called the Yarkhun, below the town the Mastuj. Mastuj was once the capital of little Bolor. A barbecue dinner by a campfire in the gardens of the fort will be a good prelude to a peaceful night away from the bustle and the humdrum of modern life.
Day 07: Early starts the journey over the Shandur pass (12,000ft.). This is where the internationally famous annual polo festival takes place. Crossing the Shandur pass into the federally administered area of Gilgit and camp by the Breathtakingly Phundar Lake.
Day 08: There is good opportunities for trout fishing at Phundar, so after late breakfast start drive to Gupis. Distance from Phundar to Gupis is approx. 150kms. & takes 3 to 4 hours drive. Overnight in tents.
Day 09: Morning departure to Gilgit. It is famous for its “Polo” which is different from polo played elsewhere as there are hardly any rules and is therefore quite wild. Arrive and transfer to hotel. After a shower and lunch you
will be free to explore the local bazaars. Distance from Gupis to Gilgit is approx. 55 Kms. Overnight in hotel.
Day 10: Morning departure for Skardu, the last mountain town on Pakistan’s North Eastern Frontier in Baltistan. This is the heartland of the greatest assembly of mountains that stand on this earth. Skardu is situated on the bank of the mighty river Indus at a height of 2286 meters. It takes 6 to 7 hours from Gilgit to Skardu. Overnight in hotel.
Day 11: After breakfast depart for the beautiful valley of Khaplu which lies at the banks of River Shyok. Traveling amidst towering barren mountains and green valleys we arrive at the lovely village of Khaplu (2562 m). Khaplu is beautifully situated, spread across a wild alluvial fan, which slopes steeply down from an amphitheater of the mountain to the south. Distance 2 to 3 hrs.
Day 12: Full day free to explore the quaint village of Khaplu and visit the Raja’s palace. The palace is thought to be around 400 years old. You can also visit the beautiful carved wooden mosque in the village of Chakchan.
Day 13: North of Khaplu, the Hushe valley climbs gently up to Hushe village, gaining just 450m in the 30 km. The village is beautifully located on a small hillock, surrounded by rocky peaks and pinnacles, with Masherbrum to the North dominating. Overnight in tent.
Day 14: After an early breakfast departure for Skardu. Arrive and transfer to hotel.
Day 15: Departure for Deosai plain. The Deosai plain lie between the Indus River and the southern extension of the Himalayan Range, whose most famous peak is Nanga Parbat (8125m). At an average height of 3800m, the undulating, green, flower-filled meadows are surrounded by snow capped peaks and the drive through these pains is a soul string experience.
Further, freshwater lakes abound area a heaven for wildlife. Including Brown Bear and Markhor. Our jeep ride from Skardu will take us through Satpara Lake to Deosai plain.
Day 16: Free day in Deosai. Overnight in tents.
Day 17: Return to Skardu.
Day 18: Skardu to Chilas. Overnight in hotel.
Day 19: Chilas to Islamabad.
Day 20: Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
